Singers team up to promote cancer researchFifteen female recording artists, including Beyonce Knowles, Mariah Carey and Miley Cyrus, are teaming up to record "Just Stand Up," a single to benefit the Stand Up to Cancer Fundraising Campaign, the Associated Press reported Aug. 19 (see cancer story). The proceeds from the single, which will be available exclusively on iTunes Sept. 2, will go to support cancer research.
Nonprofit aims to send public-school grads to collegeDetroit College Promise organizers are seeking pledges to fund a pilot program that would provide full college scholarships for all Detroit public-school graduates, the Associated Press reported Aug. 19 (see college story). The nonprofit, which needs $500,000 to fund the pilot program, has received $40,000 to date.
