The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation says it wants to hear from critics, but with so many in the global health world dependent on the foundation for funding, honest feedback is hard to come by, The Seattle Times reported Aug. 3 (see Gates Foundation story). Meanwhile, the value of the foundation's endowment has fallen about $1.4 billion, the Portland Business Journal reported Aug. 1 (see endowment story). That is about a 3.75 percent drop from $37.3 billion, the last figure released.
IBM dispatches volunteer teams to emerging global marketsOver the next three years, IBM, which last year derived two-thirds of its revenue from outside the U.S., will donate the time and services of about 600 employees for monthlong projects in countries where it wants a bigger footprint, The Wall Street Journal reported Aug. 4 (see IBM story). Among the countries are Romania, Turkey, Ghana, Vietnam, the Philippines and Tanzania.
Network for Good acquires ePhilanthropy
Network for Good, which creates online fundraising tools and processes electronic donations for small and mid-sized nonprofit groups, has acquired ePhilanthropy, a nonprofit that teaches online marketing and ethics to the same sort of small groups, The Washington Post reported Aug. 4 (see network story. No money is changing hands, the companies said.
