Nonprofit tops 8.5 million clients served

Over the last 45 years, SCORE, a nonprofit that provides consulting services to small businesses, has served more than 8.5 million clients.

The group's mentoring services and workshops reach more than 350,000 people and help create an estimated 25,000 new jobs a year, says a study by SBA Entrepreneurship Education.

In 2007 alone, SCORE helped create almost 20,000 new small businesses, the study says.

SCORE has 364 chapters throughout the U.S., staffed by more than 12,400 volunteer business counselors who provide assistance in creating and sustaining small businesses.

To bolster small businesses during the recession, SCORE created "Accelerate Your Success," an online toolkit updated monthly with articles, templates, podcasts and workshops with tips on topics like sales, marketing and management.
