Obama, Biden report charitable donations

President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle paid nearly $1.8 million in federal taxes on adjusted gross income of over $5.5 million in 2009, and gave $329,100 to charity, while Vice President Joe Biden and his wife paid over $71,000 in taxes on adjusted gross income of over $333,000, and gave $4,820 to charity, The New York Times reported April 15 (see Obama tax return story). Obama did not have to report $1.4 million he won for receiving the Nobel Peace Prize because he asked the Nobel Committee to give it directly to charity.

Florida nonprofit execs got pay hikes while staffs got cut

A study says nonprofit executives in Manatee and Sarasota counties in Florida enjoyed 11 percent pay hikes last year at the same time nearly half their organizations cut their staffs, The Bradenton Herald reported April 16 (see nonprofit salaries story).

Ohio University planning first campaign in six years

Ohio University aims to raise at least $350 million in its first fundraising campaign in six years, The Columbus Dispatch reported April 14 (see Ohio fundraising story).

George W. Bush Foundation aims to raise $300 million

The George W. Bush Foundation aims to raise about $300 million for the George W. Bush Presidential Center, with construction expected begin November and be completed by early 2013, the Associated Press reported April 8 (see Bush library story).
