One-third of world's population gave money to charity in past month

The largest study ever into global social conscience finds that one-third of the world's population has given money to charity in the past month, The Guardian reported Sept. 8 (see global giving story).

Gates Foundation concedes it is secretive, tough to work with

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the world's largest philanthropy, conceded in its annual report that it is too secretive and difficult to work with, the Associated Press reported Sept. 7 (see Gates Foundation story).

Seattle Foundation using web to handle financial transactions, tell stories

The Seattle Foundation is launching a new website to support financial transactions and use the Web to deliver the stories of people it helps in the community directly to a wider audience, The Seattle Times reported Sept. 8 (see Seattle Foundation story).

Former professor leaves University of Kansas $2.2 million

A former psychology professor at the University of Kansas left the school $2.2 million, the bulk of his estate, to train psychology students, The Associated Press reported Sept. 8 (see university gift story).
