As she prepares to wrap up her talk show in 2011, Oprah Winfrey is closing Oprah's Angel Network, a nonprofit she founded in 1998 that has given away over $80 million, The New York Times reported May 26 (see Oprah charity story).

A U.S. official says law designed to curb financing of terrorism has hurt charitable giving but conceded it is hard to distinguish between legal and illegal financing, AFP reported May 26 (see terrorism financing story).

British arts minister cuts arts funding, calls for donations

Two days after imposing cuts totaling 61 million pounds, or $88 million, on British charities, Britain's new culture minister called on philanthropists to give more to the arts, Bloomberg reported May 26 (see British arts story).
