Rooney to lead Center on Philanthropy

Patrick Rooney has been tapped to take over as permanent executive director of the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University.

A professor of philanthropic studies and economics, Rooney has served as interim executive director since September 2008 and before that served as the organization's director of research and spent two years as its chief operating officer.

"These are challenging times in the nonprofit sector," Rooney says in a statement. "There is tremendous energy and excitement at the center for helping philanthropy overcome those challenges to change lives and communities."

As executive director, he hopes to enhance the center's academic, training and research work, expand the center's programs internationally and develop an undergraduate degree in philanthropic studies.

Before joining the center, Rooney served as special assistant to the vice president of long-range planning at Indiana and as assistant dean for academic programs at Indiana University-Purdue University Columbus.
