Top nonprofit employers named

Based on testimonials from employees, job-posting site Opportunity Knocks has named 15 organizations as winners of its second-annual Peoples Choice Best Nonprofit to Work For Awards.

A wide range of factors were considered in nominating and choosing the winners, including work-life balance, adherence to mission and camaraderie of employees.

Five winners were named in each of three categories, according to the size of groups' operating budgets:

Operating budge of $2.5 million or less

  • 100 Black Men of Atlanta
  • Breast Cancer Connections
  • Ella Baker Center for Human Rights
  • Open Books
  • ProCon.org

Operating budget of $2.5 million to $5 million

  • Center for Literacy
  • Homeless Prenatal Program
  • Indian Oaks Academy
  • Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Georgia Chapter
  • United Way of the Central Savannah River Area

Operating budget of $5 million or more

  • Facing History and Ourselves
  • Family Planning Council
  • Hillcrest Family Services
  • The Doe Fund
  • World Wildlife Fund
