The Saint Luke's Foundation, located in Cleveland, approved its first cycle grants for 2013. The awards total $3,292,165 and were granted to nine organizations that focus on healthy people, strong communities, and resilient families. A complete list of grant recipients can be found online.
University of Puget Sound received a $2 million gift from William and Flora McCormick to establish The William D. and Flora McCormick Endowed Chair in Biophysics.
The Gateway for Cancer Research received a $1 million contribution from Michael T. Clune and his company, Clune Construction. The donation will support innovative cancer clinical trials that aim to help cancer patients feel better, live longer or be cured.

The National Peace Corps Association (NPCA) will present Dr. Mohamud Sheikh Nurein Said with the Harris Wofford Global Citizen Award. The Harris Wofford Award honors an outstanding global leader who grew up in a country where Peace Corps volunteers served, whose life was influenced by the Peace Corps, and whose career contributed significantly to their nation and the world in ways that reflect shared values in human dignity and economic, social and political development.
The Eli and Edythe Broad Foundation announced Uncommon Schools as the winner of the 2013 Broad Prize for Public Charter Schools. The organization will receive $250,000 to support college-readiness efforts for its students.
The League of American Orchestras announced award winners at its 68th annual national conference, which was held June 18-20 in St. Louis. Two Gold Batons were award to Dan Randel, president emeritus, The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, and to the Volunteer Council of the League of American Orchestras. In addition, the Helen M. Thompson Award was presented to Jennifer Barlament, executive director of the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra.
The Alliance for Nonprofit Management announced the finalists for the 2013 Terry McAdam Book Award. The four finalists include: Measuring the Networked Nonprofit: Using Data to Change the World by Beth Kanter and Katie Delahaye Paine; With Charity for All by Ken Stern; Group Alchemy: The Six Elements of Highly Successful Collaboration by Deborah Pruitt; and Social Change Anytime Everywhere: How to Implement Online Multichannel Strategies by Allyson Kapin and Amy Sample Ward.
Discovery Education and 3M announced the top 10 finalists in the 15th annual Discovery Education 3M Young Scientist Challenge, a science competition for students in grades 5-8. Each finalist will work directly with a 3M scientist during a summer mentorship program, receive $1,000, and be awarded a trip to 3M Headquarters to participate in the final competition Oct. 6-8. Give2Asia, a nonprofit social enterprise with offices in Beijing and San Francisco, announced a new program aimed at building the capacity and capability of local charitable organizations in China. With support from the Ford Foundation, Give2Asia will facilitate 10 mentoring workshops for local nongovernmental organizations and foundations supporting educational development in China.
AmeriCares launched Safetynetcenter.org, a new online resource for clinics and health centers across the United States serving the uninsured and underinsured. The site contains educational materials on a variety of clinical topics including oral health, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and more.

ARAMARK, in partnership with the United Neighborhood Centers of America (UNCA) and the Alliance for Children and Families (Alliance), will recognize one outstanding community center leader with the Peter B. Goldberg ARAMARK Building Community Executive Leadership Award. The award honors an individual who advances successful solutions to community challenges, takes innovative approaches to solving problems, and advocates for community centers. Blackbaud opened nominations for the Impact Awards, which honors organizations that use technology to make a positive impact on their mission, constituents and society. To qualify, nonprofits must demonstrate that they have achieved results and positive impact through return on investment, meeting (or exceeding) program goals and organizational efficiency. Nonprofits may submit an application online by July 26.
Wyndham Worldwide is giving fans an opportunity to select the finalists in its Wyndham Championship "Charity of Choice" awareness campaign. Fans can visit Wyndham Worldwide's Facebook page or WyndhamChampionship.com, to cast their vote up to once daily through July 31 for their favorite charitable organization. The 10 organizations with the most votes will be named finalists and will be eligible for on-site voting during the Wyndham Championship tournament play, Aug. 15-18. at the Donald Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C. The charity that receives the most votes during the tournament will receive a $100,000 donation courtesy of Wishes by Wyndham.
