UCLA School of Law received a $5.5 million gift from philanthropist Charles R. Williams to support the leadership and foster the growth of the Williams Institute.

Comfort Zone Camp (CZC), a bereavement camp for grieving youth age seven to 17, announced a two-year, $1,000,000 grant from the New York Life Foundation. The grant will help CZC continue to build organizational capacity and support the implementation of a new program that will increase the number of campers served. 

GreaterGood.org announced that grants and donations totaling more than $300,000 were sent to 105 charities in May and an additional $82,000 was sent in June to agencies dealing with the aftermath of the Oklahoma tornadoes and storms. Funding for this round of grants came primarily from the "Gifts That Give More" program found on the GreaterGood website.

The Sisters of Charity Foundation, whose mission is to address generational poverty, awarded $627,000 to nine strategic grantees addressing the root causes of poverty in South Carolina. Kingsland Capital Management raised more than $76,000 for the Tom Liu Memorial Endowment Fund at the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center. The funds were raised at the seventh annual Tom Liu Memorial Golf Classic, which brought together 125 golfers and dinner guests to help support the center.

The CVS Caremark Charitable Trust and CVS/pharmacy donated more than $10,000 in support of families and communities affected by the Yarnell Hill Fire. The donation was given to the 100 Club, which serves more than 52,000 public safety officers, firefighters and their families throughout the state of Arizona.

Meritage Homes Corporation, a U.S. homebuilder, has teamed up with Operation Homefront, a national charity supporting families of service members and wounded warriors, to provide three mortgage-free Meritage homes to selected military families. As part of the "Homes on the Homefront" program, Meritage Homes will build and donate a home in each of the following three locations: Goodyear, Ariz.; Cary, N.C.; and Converse, Texas. The CEA Foundation, a charitable organization affiliated with the Consumer Electronics Association, announced its support of Lighthouse International with a grant to support its patient resource and communications center. The grant will help equip the center with devices and staff necessary to assist the visually impaired. 

The NALA, a small business association, has named Soles4Souls as its featured charity for 2013-14. The NALA's association members will collect shoes and funds and will support Soles4Souls through education, social media and fundraising and awareness campaigns.

Auntie Anne's has become a diamond corporate partner of The First Tee, a youth development
organization that provides educational programs for young people that build character using the game of golf as a platform. As part of the sponsorship, 50 teen participants will be selected to attend the Auntie Anne's Leaders & Entrepreneurs Forum, a national event to be held at Walt Disney World Resort Oct. 31-Nov. 3.

Lazy Bird Inc., developer of interactive apps for kids, will donate all after tax profits to the Make a Wish Foundation. July proceeds from the adventure stories "Lazy Bird" and "Doubting Dasha" are pledged in support to the foundation.

United Way Worldwide appointed Stacy D. Stewart to president of United Way U.S.A. Stewart previously served as executive vice president, community impact leadership and learning at United Way Worldwide.

Jenea Oliver has been named vice president of resource development at Children's Mercy Hospitals and Clinics, located in Kansas City, Mo.

Gulf Coast Community Foundation named Kirstin Fulkerson as its vice president for strategic engagement and hired nonprofit development professional Amy Sankes as its philanthropic advisor.

Good360, an organization that helps companies efficiently donate slow-moving, obsolete and seasonal inventory to charitable organizations, appointed Chris Blake as its executive vice president of development.

The T.J. Martell Foundation, a national nonprofit organization supported by the music industry, hired Sean Barth as director of strategic marketing.

The National Brain Tumor Society appointed Michael J. Nathanson as chair of its board of directors.

Robin Domeniconi has joined the board of directors of Literacy Partners, whose mission is to end illiteracy, one adult at a time.

Change.org, an online petition platform, has hired Amanda Levy as its new vice president of sales.

Chartway Federal Credit Union hired Karen Lane as the executive director of its charitable arm, the We Promise Foundation.

The National Book Foundation has elected three new members to its board of directors: Annette Gordon-Reed, winner of the National Book Award and Pulitzer Prize; Anthony Marx, president and CEO of The New York Public Library; and Deborah Needleman, Editor-in-Chief of T: The New York Times Style Magazine.

Herb Alpert was recognized for his lifetime contributions to the arts with one of the 12 Medal of Arts bestowed annually by the White House. Alpert is a music icon and accomplished sculptor, painter and philanthropist. The National Medal of Arts is the highest award given to artists and arts patrons by the United States government.

"Sharing the Journey," a music video featuring country music artist Lucas Hoge that portrays two stories inspired by Sangre de Cristo Hospice's outreach to Southern Colorado patients and families, is a semi-finalist for the Inspirational Country Music's Video of the Year.

The Human Rights Campaign, a lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender civil rights organization, announced a nationwide media campaign being executed through an in-kind media grant from PVBLIC Foundation to raise visibility and awareness.

Cessna Aircraft Company has partnered with five nonprofit organizations as part of its Discover Flying Challenge internship to bring awareness to their charitable efforts. Cessna selected five charities to be featured during the program: American Red Cross, Experimental Aircraft Association Young Eagles, Special Olympics, United Way and Veterans Airlift Command. The pilot interns will use social media to share their experiences with flight and philanthropy to engage aviation enthusiasts and community partners' supporters. The charity with the most social engagement will receive a $25,000 donation from Cessna.

The Community Partnership for Arts and Culture and Northeast Shores Development Corporation of Cleveland have created the Artists in Residence Program (AIR), which aims to help prospective artists live affordably while growing their business. The overall goal of AIR is to increase artists' access to affordable space within Cleveland and to develop a replicable model for increasing artists' participation in the revitalization of other neighborhoods and other industrial cities across the country. For more information on AIR visit www.welcometocollinwood.com.

Donate.ly, an online fundraising tool, announced its official launch. The platform includes features that allow nonprofits to manage fundraising campaigns, embed donation forms on a site that works with any device, and also includes a proprietary donation application programmer interface which empowers agencies and organizations to create giving experiences that focus on the donor. Donate.ly is the creation of Fifty & Fifty, a humanitarian creative studio that creates websites for the common good.

The International Coach Federation (ICF) released its 2013 Organizational Coaching Study, which can be accessed at Coachfederation.org/orgstudy. The study was undertaken by the ICF, in collaboration with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, to provide businesses, coaches, stakeholders and the general public with new information and insights about the status, value, effectiveness and impact of professional coaching within organizations.

The law firm Ober|Kaler has launched its annual Ober|Kaler community grants program. The program awards $35,000 in community grants to aid nonprofit organizations serving at-risk youth living in Baltimore City and Washington, D.C. Grant applications and guidelines are available on the community grants page. Completed applications must be received by Aug. 3.
