Charitable revenue grew overall and online in the three months ended in May, compared to the same period in 2010, two new reports say.

Overall charitable revenue grew 11.3 percent for the period, marking the 10th straight month of growth and the first three-month period of year-to-year growth since the three months ended in April 2010, a new report says.

And for the first time since the start of the recession, nonprofits of all sizes are experiencing that growth, says The Blackbaud Index of Charitable Giving, which is based on $2.3 billion in 12 months' revenue at 1,383 nonprofits.

Online revenue grew 6.7 percent for the period, according to a separate report, The Blackbaud Index of Online Giving, which is based on $427 million in 12 months' online revenue from 1,833 nonprofits.

The two reports are updated on the 15th of each month and are based on a three-month moving average of year-to-year percent changes in charitable giving.

Blackbaud also introduced a new specialty index focused on international-affairs nonprofits that includes organizations involved in international aid, development and relief, as well as policy and analysis.

Overall charitable revenue grew to international-affairs nonprofits grew 13 percent for the three months ended in May, compared to the same period in 2010, while online revenue for those organizations fell 0.3 percent.

The report on overall revenue for those groups is based on $375 million in 12-month revenue from 17 organizations, while the report on online revenue is based on $53 million in 12-month revenue from 52 organizations.
