"Jill brings extensive experience as a communications professional and will be essential in strengthening Philanthropy Journal as a resource for news and information. She will help us better serve state and national nonprofits, as well as job seekers," said Dr. Mary Tschirhart, Director of the NCSU Institute for Nonprofit Research, Education and Engagement (INPREE), which publishes Philanthropy Journal.
Lucas will oversee the transformation of Philanthropy Journal to more effectively build the capacity of nonprofits and to foster a higher level of engagement between partners and stakeholders, both within the online publication and through a robust social media presence.
An editorial board will be announced in coming weeks and other plans are in the works to ensure that content is timely and relevant to the needs and interests of subscribers. An overhaul of the site's appearance and organization also is planned.
"Our goal is make better use of the resources already in place while establishing new relationships to create an effective forum for nonprofit news and opinions," Lucas said. "We also want to spotlight the talent of our partners and Institute for Nonprofit staff and faculty affiliates, as well as students in the undergraduate nonprofit studies minor who are preparing for roles as future nonprofit leaders."

She formerly served as Deputy Press Secretary in the Governor's Press Office and Public Information Officer for the Governor's Highway Safety Program of the N.C. Department of Transportation.
Prior to joining state government, she worked as a reporter at the Sanford Herald, where she received awards from the N.C.
