Undergrad philanthropy program gets director

Julie Hatcher, a scholar in the field of service learning and service engagement in higher education, has been named to direct the first undergraduate program in the U.S. in philanthropic studies.

Hatcher, formerly associate director of the Center for Service and Learning at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, or IUPUI, will serve as director of undergraduate studies at the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University.

Hatcher, one of the first scholars to earn a doctoral degree in philanthropic studies, will oversee the new Bachelor of Arts in Philanthropic Studies program that begins this fall in the Indiana University School of Arts at IUPUI.

As associate professor of philanthropic studies, she also will teach in the undergraduate and graduate programs at the Center on Philanthropy, and conduct research.

Hatcher earned a bachelor's degree in social studies, a master's degree in higher education and a PhD in philanthropic studies from Indiana University.
