VolunteerMatch teams with Google Earth

Through a new partnership, volunteers seeking service opportunities will be able to view their options through an online mapping service.

Effective January 19, in honor of the Martin Luther King Day of Service, VolunteerMatch integrated Google Earth's mapping service to provide service seekers with an aerial view of options.

Once web users install a Google Earth plug-in, they will be able to view the tens of thousands of volunteer opportunities posted by nonprofits on the VolunteerMatch website.

The launch of the new capability was scheduled to coincide with the Day of Service, which was expected to be the largest such day in history, and with the inauguration as president of Barack Obama, who has called on U.S. citizens to engage in service activities.

"We're proud to be investing in technology that supports the national effort to renew the spirit of service embodied by Dr. King," Greg Baldwin, president of VolunteerMatch, says in a statement.
