White House looking to nonprofits for social solutions
The head of the White House Office of Social Innovation and Civic Participation says President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama believe solutions to social problems lie in communities throughout the U.S. with with local nonprofits, which represent 11 percent of the U.S. workforce and generate $600 billion a year, the Memphis Flyer reported May 5 (see nonprofit innovation story).
Health-care providers rapped for not promoting charity care
Two patients' rights groups say nonprofit health-care providers are not doing enough to get out the word about their charity-care policies, even though industry supporters say they are, ModernHealthcare.com reported May 5 (see patients' rights story).
