01.20.12: News about grants, gifts

 William Charles Helton and Helton Family Foundation pledged $5 million to WakeMed Foundation, Raleigh, foundation's largest single gift ever, for $20 million campaign to expand and renovate WakeMed's neonatal intensive care unit.

Curamericas Global, Raleigh, received grants of $169,043 and $285,268 from Ronald McDonald House Charities to coordinate and expand existing projects in Guatemala and Liberia, respectively, that are expected to reach 60,000 Liberian people and 23,000 Guatemalans.

Charlotte Rescue Mission received $10,000 from US Airways.

Mary's House, Greensboro, homeless shelter for mothers in recovery from addition, and their children, selected for charity project Jan. 19 that will involve 30 Home Depot employees.

Keep NC Beautiful, in partnership with NC Coca-Cola Bottlers Council, accepting community-improvement grant applications for projects to address litter prevention and clean-up, waste reduction and recycling, and beautification.

March 23 is deadline for submitting applications to Arts & Science Council, Charlotte, for cultural-project grants and cultural-festival grants.
