Bill Shore retiring as director of U.S. community partnerships at GlaxoSmithKline, Research Triangle Park, effective Feb. 3, after 27 years with company.

Central Piedmont Community College launched 50th-anniversary campaign to raise at least $40 million to fund scholarships, additional faculty positions, workforce-development initiatives and other programs; chairs are Pat and B.D. Rodgers of Rodgers Builders.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Foundation launched Inspired, website at www.inspirednc.org to showcase contributions of local leaders and groups who sometimes go unnoticed.

Urban Ministry Center, Charlotte, opening Moore Place, a "housing first" model of permanent supportive housing for the chronically homeless that will offer 85 efficiency apartments, with on-site case management and other supportĀ  services.

DHIC Inc., Raleigh, named three new members of board of directors - Angela Connor, Capstrat; Glenn French, St. Augustine's College; and Gary Blum, Wells Fargo. Sam Crutchfield, Grubb Properties, named board chair, and Norman Camp, retired educator, named vice-chair.

Cape Fear Literacy Council will benefit from Gala 2012, to be held March 3, 6:30 p.m., at The Hangar at Air Wilmington.

Charlotte affiliate of Big Brothers Big Sisters will hold its eighth Bowl for Kids' Sake bowl-a-thon Feb. 25 at Strike City at the Epicenter, aiming to raise $100,000.
