North Carolina New Schools Project raised $1.5 million in pledges in recent weeks to meet required private-sector match for $15 million federal grant to add up to 20 traditional high schools in rural, low-income communities across state and benefit over 20,000 students.

Sisters of Mercy of North Carolina Foundation awarded grants totaling over $1.7 million to 35 nonprofits in the Carolinas.

Triangle Community Foundation, Durham, awarded total of $192,000 in community grants to 14 nonprofts.

Cemala Foundation, Greensboro, awarded $3,000 grant to United Way of Greater High Point to continue its Project Board Development program.

Wake Tech Foundation received $16,000 from Rotary Club of the Capital City, Raleigh.

Moonlight Creative Group, Charlotte, donated over 480 hours of pro-bono creative services to eight nonprofits.

Women's Center of Wake Count, Raleigh, awarded $10,000 grant from Walmart through Facebook campaign.

Salvation Army in Wake and Durham counties providing toys, clothing and other gifts to over 8,000 children, increase of over 600 from last year.

River Bound Races Series helped raise $60,000 for North Carolina Outward Bound School, Charlotte.

Wesley Mancini Foundation, Charlotte, extended deadling for submitting 2012 grant application to April 2, 2012.
