Triangle fundraisers honor excellence

RALEIGH, N.C. - Consultant Gail Perry, a trainer for nonprofit leadership and author of Fired Up Fundraising, has been named outstanding fundraising executive by the Triangle chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.

Perry will be honored Nov. 15 at the chapter's 2011 National Philanthropy Day luncheon, which will be held at Prestonwood Country Club in Cary.

Other award winners to be recognized at the luncheon, which will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., include:

  • Excellence in Philanthropy - L. Richardson Preyer and Marilyn Jacobs Preyer, Hillsborough, who have held leadership positions and made transformation gifts to the School of Social Work and Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, both at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
  • Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser - Mary Susan Fulghum, a subscriber, donor and active volunteer for over 20 years at the North Carolina Symphony who has become one of its "most engaged trustees and strongest supporters."
  • Outstanding Philanthropic Organization - V Foundation for Cancer Research, Cary, which has raised over $100 million throughout the U.S. for cancer research; Apple Gold Group, Raleigh, which has raised over $1.3 million in past year in more than 1,200 in-store fundraisers and contributed nearly 20,000 hours of employee volunteer time; and Progress Energy, Raleigh, which has been a leader in supporting the performing arts in Raleigh and invested over $125 million in grants over last decade in local communities.
  • Outstand Youth In Philanthropy - Chase Jones, Greensboro, a cancer survivor who with the rest of the baseball team at UNC-Chapel Hill raised over $24,000 in through an annual "BaseBald For The Cure" event to support children with cancer treated in Chapel Hill.
