Book celebrating women published

HICKORY, N.C. - Proceeds from a new book of stories and poems by and about women in the Hickory area will benefit an organization that serves and supports women.

The Women's Resource Center in Hickory published "Voices and Vision: A Collection of Writings by and About Empowered Women," which contains 40 original writings by 24 women, mostly from the local area.

Proceeds from sales of the book, which carries a price tag of $12, will be used to support the programs of the center.

Featured writers include local authors like Betty Stone and Molly Rice, as well as teachers Jeanne Ackley and Karen Dill, and artists Ellen Ball and Wyn Flo.

All the entries tell the stories of women "who weather life's storms and transcend difficult hardships to become strong, health and happy," the center says.

Books will be on sale at a book-release party to be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. March 24 at the Taste Full Beans Coffeehouse at the Furniture Mart in Hickory.

Copies can be pre-ordered by calling 828.322.6333 or emailing outreach@wrchickory.org.
