Fund supports women worldwide

The Global Fund for Women has awarded its latest round of grants, giving away a total of nearly $2 million to 138 grassroots women's groups representing 68 nations. 

The grants were awarded to help end gender violence, encourage peace, expand political and civic participation, advance sexual and reproductive rights and support economic and environmental justice.

The division of funds by geographical area is as follows:

  • $297,500 to 31 groups in central and southern Africa
  • $457,000 to 27 groups in North and South America
  • $556,400 to 32 groups in Asia and Oceania
  • $261,200 to 22 groups in Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States
  • $379,600 to 22 groups in the Middle East and North Africa

The Global Fund for Women, based in San Francisco, is the world's largest grantmaking foundation exclusively focused on women's rights.  Since its inception in 1987, it has awarded in excess of $64 million to groups from all over the world supporting the rights of women.
