Winston-Salem women to award grants

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Women's Fund of Winston-Salem plans to award a total of $170,000 in grants in 2009 to groups serving the women and girls of Forsyth County.

The fund, which is administered by the Winston-Salem Foundation, is seeking funding proposals for its Community Grants and Grassroots Grants programs.

The Women's Fund, made up of more than 650 women and girls who contribute funds to a grantmaking pool, has awarded a total of $325,000 to support local women and girls since 2007.

Community Grants provide funding of up to $30,000 to nonprofits of all sizes. Preliminary applications are due June 4 and invitations to submit a full proposal will be distributed June 16, with final proposals due July 15.

Grassroots Grants provide funding of up to $10,000 to organizations with budgets of $250,000 or less. Applicants in need of technical assistance with proposals must submit a preliminary application by June 15, with final applications due July 15.

Potential applicants for both grant programs are invited to attend a workshop either 9-10:30 a.m. on May 12, or 3-4:30 p.m. on May 13. A workshop covering the Grassroots Grants program only will be held from 9-10:30 a.m. on May 26.
