WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The Women's Fund of Winston-Salem is working to get at the root causes of the problems affecting the community's women and girls..
Though the fund affirmed its commitment to organizations that provide aid and relief in the aftermath problems like abuse and homelessness, the current round of grants, totaling $182,276, is aimed at groups working to prevent problems from occurring.
The programs funded by the grants are designed to encourage self-sufficiency and educational attainment with the goal of setting Forsyth County women on a path of achievement, awareness and healthy self-esteem.
"We will support programs that create change in the lives of women and girls by promoting prevention and seeking to address the root causes of problems individuals may face rather than just the symptoms," Susan Brittain, grants committee chair for the Women's Fund, says in a statement.
Grants were awarded to:
- Bethesda Center for the Homeless - $20,000
- Carver School Road Branch Library - $3,220
- Wake Forest University School of Medicine - $15,620
- Children's Law Center of North Carolina - $20,000
- Crisis Control Ministry - $30,000
- Empowering Girls in Real Life Situations - $30,000
- Experiment in Self Reliance - $5,000
- Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools - $28,436
- Winston-Salem Youth Arts Institute - $30,000
The Women's Fund of Winston-Salem is a group of women givers who use their philanthropy to support and meet the needs of women and girls in Forsyth County.
